Sarri Seems to Be the Hardest Word

Hello Serie A fan,

Lazio do their talking on the pitch. Juventus save theirs for the post-match interviews. And Maurizio Sarri would like to know why everyone else gets to tell the referee where to go.

Boaz and Kenny pick through a weekend of statement wins, familiar failings and questionable defending. Gattuso’s Lazio leave Turin with three points and rather fewer doubters, while Spalletti’s Juventus finish with a pitch full of forwards and more fingers to point than answers.

The first “Scudetto derby“ of the season brings Milan an hour of dominance, Atalanta a belated comeback, and Kenny very little pleasure. Rabiot runs the show, Maignan puts rather a lot on the line, and Sarri discovers that some words are harder to get away with than others.

Elsewhere, Inter keep the Pazza nickname alive, Roma bounce back with a Castro masterpiece, and De Roon’s new life remains a sensitive subject in Bergamo. Napoli run into a Stanković-inspired brick wall, while Como return to winning ways and Fiorentina contemplate another season of the same old story.

Plus: Good Week / Bad Week, honourable and dishonourable mentions, Sassuolo defending in a manner that’s unfair to call schoolboy, and a six-year-old’s application to become Milan’s lucky charm.

Ciao ragazzi!
